Photoshop CS6

Freebie: 3DBuzz Offers Free Photoshop CS6 Tutorials

Free Photoshop CS6 Training? Yes Please!

You really can’t argue with free stuff, whether it’s software, services or “other,” but you especially can’t argue with free education. The nice (and disgustingly talented, I might add) people over at 3D Buzz have put together a set of free Photoshop CS6 training videos, complete with supplementary files, which you can download right now. The series covers the essentials of Photoshop CS6, so they’re very friendly for noobies. Perhaps just as important, they’re adept enough at covering the new UI that even seasoned Photoshop veterans can pick up a few new tricks.

Mission: Small Business – about grants or gaining customers?

Is Mission: Small Business out to help small businesses, or to find new customers for Chase and Living Social?

By now, most of you have seen the Facebook posts for Mission: Small Business.  The idea behind the campaign is that up to twelve small businesses can receive grants of $250,000 to expand their company.  To be fair, the business that helped with this website, Ogre Techs, is in the running for one of the grants.  We’ve received at least a half dozen requests from different companies to help support their business.  When we went to vote, we noticed the advantage for the sponsors.

In order to have a chance of receiving the grant, a company needs at least 250 votes by the end of June.  The competition is open to any small business in the U.S. that meets a few general qualifications.  There are literally thousands of businesses competing, if not tens or even hundreds of thousands.  The site does not allow you to see the essay that each company had to write to apply for the competition.  It does show the number of votes each company has received to date.

Here’s where it gets interesting.  The vast majority of companies listed are not going to gather 250 votes.  Not even close.  Most companies appear to have less than 25 votes.  These companies have no chance of being eligible to receive the $250,000 grant. Read on after the break for more details!

FREE This Week: IObit Advanced System Care PRO

IoBit System Care Free Previously we’ve done a review of Iobit’s excellent freeware product “Advanced System Care Free,” and recommended it whole heartedly. For the next few days, though, they’re offering the PRO version for free, in celebration of the product’s five year anniversary. Now, there’s nothing wrong with the free version, but let’s face it: if you can get the Pro version for the same free price, don’t you sort of owe it to yourself? :-D

Tell us what you watch, win a game!

bf1943giveaway

I’m just going to admit it right now: I am lazy and forgetful about certain things. One of those things involves giveaways, and this is one that I meant to do waaaaaay back during E3 of this year. Sadly, I suck, and I tucked these snazzy little cards into a backpack pocket and promptly forgot about them. However, you’re in luck: they’re still valid! :)

So what I’ve got are three copies of Battlefield 1943, which is a digital download. I have two copies for Playstation 3 and one copy for Xbox 360. The way this will work is simple: In the comments, tell us what your three favorite nerdy shows are and a sentence or two about why you watch them. We’ll sift through the comments and choose from those who make their case with the most…I dunno, I want to say “elegance,” but on the other hand, maybe “humor” would be a better criterion. In any case, get commenting and we’ll select the three luck winners on Halloween!
