Joss Whedon Returns to TV for SHIELD Series

Fanboys Weep as Images of Joss Whedon with a SHIELD Logo Appear on Toast

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

SHIELD gets the Avengers writer!I just wet my pants: Joss Whedon, one of today’s hottest writer/director combo superguy thingies, is confirmed to be returning to television for the first time since his troubled series “Dollhouse” limped to the finish line in 2010. But more importantly, in the time since his last high-concept show’s death, Whedon’s gone on to direct a tiny little movie you may’ve heard about: Marvel’s The Avengers, the third highest grossing movie yet produced. Pretty slick.

According to the release, Whedon will write and may direct the pilot episode of SHIELD, if his schedule permits. In addition to “the Man himself,” Whedon’s brother Zack will also write and produce the show, along with his wife Maurisa Tancharoen. Besides sharing in common writing duties on the aforementioned “Dollhouse,” the younger Whedon and Ms. Tancharoen also co-wrote the cult favorite web series, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog,” which took the web pretty much by storm back during the writer’s strike. Read on after the break for more details!

Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Trailer!

Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, FINALLY in Movie Form!

Get More: MTV Shows

While Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises continues tearing it up in theaters, another vision–those in the know would say a superior vision–of Batman’s final days is under production for release in September. For Batman fans, this book is practically legendary: Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Originally released in 1986, the four part comic series, later released as a trade paperback/graphic novel, begins 10 years after Bruce Wayne has retired from his tenure as Batman. As Gotham descends into anarchy, a by-product of the federal government’s criminalization of costumed heroes, Bruce finally cracks and returns to don the cape and cowl for one final front in the war to put fear into the hearts of real criminals.

The trailer was released today by MTV and highlights the first half of the epic, coming in September!

I can’t wait–this is the way a truly great Batman finale is written!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back!

I have been a fervent fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ever since their debut as a black and white comic, published by Mirage Studios, back in 1984.  Creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman meant to do a one shot parody of some of the most popular comics of that time, among them Daredevil.  Little did they know that they would start a multi-million dollar franchise.  Animated series, toys, movies, a slew of merchandising followed.

Nowadays the Turtles belong to Nickelodeon, which  purchased the rights to the entire franchise back in 2009.  A new animated series is in the works, and hopefully a new movie.  My main passion, however are the original Ninja Turtles, the black and white creatures introduced in issue #1.  They were dark and violent before being toned down to a friendly format for children.  Even their looks were more intimidating.
