Assassins Creed Origins Takes Us to the First Assassin in Ancient Egypt
During Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference, the reveal trailer began “we are the first to see the gods, the first to tame their beasts, the first to guard the soul from evil.” A dramatic beginning to the “brotherhood born in the shadows.” These are the first assassins in Ancient Egypt. The reveal sets the scene for the world premiere gameplay of Assassins Creed Origins.
The story follows Bayek, a “Medjay” warrior. Jean Guesdson, Creative Director, Ubisoft, premiered gameplay as he returns to his home in Siwa to perform an assassination. The game is a 4k, Ultra HD and HDR experience.
One of the highlights was the addition of more animals than horses and their increased use. The trailer included a killer alligator, cheetahs, and hyenas. Bayek owns a falcon who acts as his eyes and can give him a birds-eye view of the surrounding area and gain additional information. The detail on his falcon was crisp and gorgeous! He had amazing feathering, realistic feather spreads during flights, glowing golden eyes, and sideways blinks.
You immediately recognize most of the features as classic Assassins Creed – the mumbling of passerby, climbing walls, jumping from feature to feature, and recognizing and killing targets. The close up, hand to hand fighting felt a bit choppy in Alpha gameplay, but I’m sure it will be smoothed out by October.
