On Fitness, Weight Loss, and Becoming a Healthy Nerd
I hurt, but I can change that. It’s time to be a healthy nerd. Today starts a new series on All That Nerdy Stuff about finding fun, nerdy ways to incorporate fitness and nutrition into your (and my) daily life. We’ll be trying out apps, VR, video games, and creativity to reach a healthier place. A bit about me and why I’m doing this: I’ve had two migraines in less than six months. The second one was a week and a half ago. Since then, I have daily headaches, mild vertigo, nausea, and muscle cramps. While I used to have migraines in college, I figured out my triggers. These two migraines are the first in over fifteen years. Two weeks ago, after walking around at Long Beach Comic Expo for five hours, I hurt. Not just, “Oh, my feet are sore from these too small boots” hurt, but an “I’ve just run my first marathon” hurt. The level of pain didn’t seem to match the fact that all I did was walk around, talk to people, and take photos. My only conclusion to what’s going on with my body (besides hypochondriac ones like brain tumors, poisoned food, or other unlikely choices) is my current diet and level of fitness. I work more than full time, I’m raising a kid, and my health has not been a priority. So today is day zero. The day of planning and prepping for change. I’m looking forward to sharing some of my nerdy ideas with all of you, and becoming a Healthy Nerd! If you have any suggestions of apps or games to try, I’d love to hear them!
