The Legend of Zelda – Breath of the Wild
Nintendo dedicated an entire press conference during E3 2016 to a gorgeous upcoming release – The Legend of Zelda – Breath of the Wild. They showed off new gameplay footage and a number of features with this great new Legend of Zelda game.
We knew from the initial previews that this would be a beautiful, colorful world, and we weren’t disappointed. There are colorful new bosses in the vast, alive world. One of my favorite images in the area we watched Link explore is a Gothic Church set in the great plateau.
At the beginning of the game, Link wakes up in Shrine of Resurrection. This is a new area from previous games. There he’s introduced to the Sheikah Slate. This is the first introduction of technology to Zelda, which makes a lot of sense. The Shrine of Resurrection is where you can first outfit Link. Amusingly, the hosts noted that you can play nude if you wish!
During the gameplay, we watched sweeping panoramic shots and learned a bit about how Link interacts in this new world.
The gameplay is a little more natural than previous Legend of Zelda games. There are no longer hearts in the grass. You need to eat food instead (and cook it first – like baked apples!) Link can light things on fire with a lit tree branch, chop trees to get apples and firewood, among other things (firewood comes bundled!), and find and craft weapons. Also, as in real life, weapons and shields break over time with use. However, you can take enemy’s weapons during battle or find new weapons in the world around you.
The Legend of Zelda – Breath of the Wild comes out on Wii U and NX December, 2016. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more gameplay footage!
