Wii U: Super Mario 3D World Looks Great, Plays It Safe

Super Mario’s Latest Outing Unveiled – Super Mario 3D World

It’s tough to get completely tired of the classic Super Mario gameplay formula. It’s repeated so often, both in Mario games and in others, because it works, pure and simple. But with that acknowledged, I’m not sure this is the Super Mario game audiences were really hoping for. Oh, sure, Super Mario 3D World looks beautiful–vivid colors, sharp, HD graphics, buttery smooth framerates–but somehow I feel like I’ve played a bit too much of the classic formula in the last couple of years. I was kind of hoping for Super Mario Galaxy 3, I guess. Anyway, here’s the trailer for Nintendo’s upcoming Mario platformer, unveiled today in Nintendo Direct.

On the bright side, you’ll get 4 player multiplayer, starring Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad.
