It’s the Year of Luigi with New Super Luigi U
Nintendo has declared that this is the year of Luigi. To that extent, next month they’re releasing a Luigi-based game: New Super Luigi U!
The game is a “sequel” of sorts to New Super Mario U. It has eighty-two updated game levels. It will also contain new downloadable content for New Super Mario U. Plus, Nabbit!
Amusingly, Mario is NOT in the game. It’s the year of Luigi! Instead, you can play as Nabbit, Luigi, Red Toad, or Yellow Toad. Yes, Nabbit, the purple Oswald meets a Piranha plant that you chased through New Super Mario U, will now be a playable character in New Super Luigi U. Nabbit cannot power up like other characters. Instead, he won’t take damage when hit by enemies. Nabbit is only available in multiplayer game play.
New Super Luigi U will be available on June 20th in the eShop as downloadable content for New Super Mario U owners at $19.99 There is also a standalone packaged version coming on August 25th for $29.99. While the same content is in both, having the packaged version of New Super Luigi U available allows those that don’t own New Super Mario U to play the game. There will be the same content in both.
