Mario and Sonic 2014 Olympic Winter Games

The Olympic Winter Games 2014 at Sochi, Featuring Sonic, Mario, and all their friends!

Nintendo announced during their latest Nintendo update livestream more details on their latest Olympic title, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.  This game will be released for the Wii U platform. Like previous winter Olympic titles, it will have skiing, skating, and large number of winter Olympic events.  New for 2014 is figure skating pairs and snowboarding “snow style.”

2014 Winter Olympic Games - curling - all that gaming stuffThe Wii U game pads will come into use in a number of ways in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.  During curling, you can show your partner your strategy by drawing it in on the game pad.  During shooting events, you’ll need to use the game pad to accurately place your shot.

Unlike the real Olympics, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will contain other events and features not possible in real life.  There will by dynamic moves (crazy snowboarding flips over snow-lined canyons, for example) that do not exist in reality.  There are also mixed events, featuring skating, skiing, and sledding all at the same time.  Much as it would be fun to take down a few figure skaters with a four person sled…

A release date for Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games was not announced during the Nintendo update.  We’re expecting it to be available closer to the games themselves.
