Need a call from Santa?
The Google Santa Tracker, on top of having some other fun features, allows you to chat with Santa Claus himself and set up a personalized e-mail or phone call. Having a retro-style chat interface with Santa is pretty awesome. In order to set up your message, you answer a handful of questions, both meaningful (the person’s name who is getting the message, their phone number or e-mail) and ridiculous (nickname for you and your callee, what Santa does in his free time.) After you have chatted with Santa and selected all of the information, an mp3 file is generated for you to preview. I tried it with a few different options and giggled every time. My daughter and friends got a big kick out of their call from Santa. You can change the details if you’re not totally satisfied with your message. Afterwards, you have the option to send it to an e-mail address or phone number.
FYI, personal phone calls are available to North American phone numbers only and during the day, but the email and Google+ messages are 24/7. While I had read elsewhere that messages to phone numbers might have a bit of delay, this wasn’t true during any of my tests. The recipients, one with a landline and two with cell phones, got their calls almost immediately after I pressed “send.” One odd feature is that the calls came as if through my phone number, so if you’d like to be more creative, use Santa’s Google voice number of 855-34-SANTA. Also note that the message does not replay, so get your kid to the phone quickly!
