Where do I update my Windows 8 apps?

update windows 8 apps - store icon - all that nerdy stuffIn order to update Windows 8 apps, you need to visit the store.  Thanks to the live tile on your start menu, you will already know when an update (or more than one – this morning I had thirteen!) is available.  The number in the bottom right corner is the number of installed apps that have updates.  Read on for how to install those updates and get your apps up to speed!

update windows 8 apps - store - all that nerdy stuffOnce you’ve entered the store, up in the top right hand corner of the window will be a note in green saying “Updates” with the number of updates listed in parentheses.  Click on this to get to the update screen.

The update screen shows each app with an update.  Every app update will be selected by default.  At the bottom of the screen will be three choices: Select all, clear, and install.  If you want every update to install, ignore the other two choices and click “install.”

 

 

 

 

update windows 8 apps - apps installing - all that nerdy stuffThe screen to the leftwill appear, showing the pending updates.  Each one has a bar underneath it, so that you know the status of the update.  Once an update has finished, that app will disappear from the screen.

 

 

 

 

update windows 8 apps - apps installed - all that nerdy stuffWhen all of the updates have completed and all of the apps have disappeared from the screen, the message “Your apps were installed.” will appear.  At this point, all of your apps are up to date and you can exit the store.
