Skype meets Facebook
Skype colides with social media
Skype now has features to sign up with your facebook account. The latest version allows you to connect with facebook rather than creating a new account from scratch. The neat part is that, once you connect, skype will automatically fill out your account information with data pulled from facebook. However, you still have to create a skype username and password – you can’t just use your facebook info.
Once you have connected with facebook, it shows as one of the options for adding contacts to your address book. You sign in using your facebook username (i.e., the e-mail address you use for facebook) and facebook password. It takes a moment to load, but all of your friends who have added their skype names to facebook will appear.
Oddly, once I signed in, I was asked to “connect with facebook.” This may be because I didn’t “allow” all the permissions on facebook that the skype app requested.

The beta version of skype 5.11 also allows you to use your Microsoft account to login. We’re looking forward to this feature and will let you know soon how well it works!
Thanks to ubergizmo for the tip!
